Pakistan Marine Academy is Pakistan’s premier maritime training institution, located at Hawks Bay Road in Karachi and operating under the Ministry of Maritime Affairs. Pakistan Marine Academy Cadet Admission 2026 Programme Overview
Two disciplines are available in the 65th Batch with 75 seats each. The Nautical or Deck stream trains cadets in navigation, cargo operations, ship handling, and maritime safety — preparing them for officer roles on the bridge of merchant vessels worldwide. The Marine Engineering stream trains cadets in the operation, maintenance, and management of ship propulsion systems and mechanical equipment, preparing them for engineering officer positions in the engine room. Key Responsibilities
- Nautical cadets are trained in celestial and electronic navigation, chartwork, watchkeeping procedures, and the international rules for preventing collisions at sea. These are foundational skills for every deck officer serving on a merchant vessel and the standard at PMA meets IMO requirements that are recognized in ports around the world.
- Marine Engineering cadets study the theory and practical operation of marine diesel engines, auxiliary machinery, electrical systems, and onboard automation. An engineer officer on a merchant ship is responsible for keeping the vessel moving and all onboard systems functioning reliably across long ocean voyages.
- All cadets receive training in maritime safety, fire fighting, survival at sea, and emergency response procedures in line with the STCW International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers. These certifications are mandatory for working on any internationally registered merchant ship.
- Cadets undergo physical fitness training throughout the two-year residential programme to build the stamina, discipline, and resilience required for a career at sea. Life on a merchant ship demands physical health and mental toughness in equal measure.
- Academic coursework covers subjects including Mathematics, Physics, English, Marine Science, Engineering Drawing, and professional maritime subjects specific to each discipline. - Cadets who perform well throughout the programme have access to need-based scholarships funded by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs. A total of 33 fully funded scholarships are available with seats allocated to students from Balochistan, Punjab, Sindh, and KPK.
Required Qualifications
- Only unmarried male citizens of Pakistan are eligible to apply. Female candidates are not accepted for this programme at this time.
- FSc Pre-Engineering with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and a minimum of 55 percent marks is required. A-Level candidates with equivalent subjects and IBCC equivalence certificate are also eligible. O-Level candidates must also provide an IBCC equivalence certificate with their application.
- Candidates currently appearing in FSc Part II or A-Level Part II can apply on the basis of a Hope Certificate signed by their college principal, provided they have scored at least 60 percent marks in Part I. Candidates who fail to achieve 55 percent in their final result after applying on a Hope Certificate will be disqualified from the selection process.
- Maximum age is 20 years as of 31 December 2026. Candidates from FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Balochistan are eligible for one year of age relaxation bringing their maximum age to 21 years.
- Medical fitness as per Merchant Navy standards is mandatory. Nautical stream candidates require unaided vision of 6/6 in each eye and no colour blindness. Marine Engineering stream candidates require unaided vision of 6/12 correctable to 6/6 and no colour blindness. All candidates must pass a physical efficiency test as part of the selection process.
