The PMA Long Course is Pakistan Army’s flagship officer commissioning pathway, designed to transform talented young civilians into fully trained commissioned officers over a two-year residential training programme at the Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul, Abbottabad. Every term of this course builds on the last, starting with physical and mental conditioning in the early stages and advancing toward tactical command, military strategy, and leadership development by the final term. Upon successful completion, graduates are commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the Pakistan Army and begin their careers as professional military officers.

• Officers commissioned through the PMA Long Course are responsible for leading and commanding soldiers in their assigned units across various arms and services of the Pakistan Army. Leadership at this level demands a combination of tactical knowledge, physical resilience, and the ability to make clear decisions under pressure in both training and operational environments.
• Commissioned officers are expected to maintain the highest standards of physical fitness at all times and ensure their troops meet the same benchmarks consistently. Physical readiness is not just a personal requirement but a command responsibility, as an officer’s fitness directly influences the morale and performance of the soldiers under their supervision.
• Officers serve as role models for discipline, ethical conduct, and professional standards within their units. • After commissioning, officers serve across Pakistan and potentially overseas on United Nations peacekeeping missions, representing the country with professionalism and building both personal experience and Pakistan’s international military reputation simultaneously.

Required Qualifications

• Pakistani male nationals including candidates from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan are eligible to apply. Candidates must be unmarried at the time of registration, with an exception for those already serving in the Pakistan Armed Forces.
• The minimum educational requirement is Intermediate FA or FSc or equivalent such as A-Levels or DAE with at least 55 percent marks for FSc candidates and 60 percent for A-Level candidates. Graduates holding a two-year BS or BCS degree, a four-year BS degree, or candidates currently in their final year of Intermediate are also eligible to apply subject to meeting their respective age limits.
• Age eligibility varies based on qualification level. Intermediate and DAE holders must be between 17 and 22 years of age. Candidates with a two-year graduate degree can be up to 23 years old. Four-year degree holders are eligible up to 24 years, and currently serving soldiers may apply up to the age of 25 years.
• Physical standards are mandatory and non-negotiable. The minimum height requirement is 5 feet 4 inches. Candidates must also meet weight and BMI standards as defined in the official criteria, and must demonstrate physical fitness by completing a 1.6 km run within 8 minutes, 15 push-ups, 20 crunches, 3 pull-ups, and a ditch crossing during the physical assessment stage.
• Required documents for registration include original Matric and Intermediate certificates or transcripts, a valid CNIC or B-Form, father’s CNIC, a domicile certificate, and recent passport-size photographs. A-Level candidates must provide an equivalence certificate issued by IBCC Islamabad. All documents must be original with attested photocopies ready for submission at the selection centre.
• Strong moral character, a clear background record, and genuine commitment to a long-term career in national defence are qualities assessed throughout the selection process including the ISSB evaluation. Candidates with outstanding academic records, leadership qualities, and a genuine desire to serve rather than simply secure employment stand the best chance of selection.
