Operating Room Technician Role Overview
As an Operating Room Technician, you will support surgical teams during procedures in the operating room. Your work will cover patient identification, pre-operative preparation, scrubbing for assigned cases, and coordinating with supervisors to keep the OR schedule on track. Shift duties are part of this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and correctly identify all patients arriving for scheduled surgery or procedures to ensure no errors occur during the process
- Check the daily patient schedule thoroughly and take over the complete patient file before each operation begins
- Complete all required pre-operative documentation accurately and submit it on time without any delays or missing information
- Ensure that all surgical specimens removed during procedures are properly labeled, packed, and dispatched for investigation as directed by the surgeon
- Scrub for assigned surgical cases and demonstrate competence and confidence across different surgical areas within the hospital
- Assist the surgical team in the safe and careful movement and transportation of patients within the unit both before and after surgery
- Report any faults, damage, or malfunctioning of equipment to the supervisor immediately so that timely rectification can be arranged
- Coordinate closely with the supervisor to ensure the OR list runs smoothly and all procedures are completed without unnecessary delays
- Support the entire surgical team in carrying out all pre-operative patient preparation tasks as required before each procedure
- Maintain cleanliness and full sterility of the operating room environment at all times in accordance with hospital infection control standards
- Assist in the proper setting up and arrangement of all surgical equipment and instruments before each procedure begins
Required Qualifications
- Matriculation required — Intermediate will be preferred
- Diploma in OT Technician is mandatory
- Minimum 1 year experience from a recognized hospital
- Ability to work in a team and handle pressure during busy shifts
- Willingness to work in rotating shifts
